 The real secret to successful investing is a deceptively concept called an Investment Policy Statement (IPS). Basically an IPS spells out an investor's investment philosophy, asset allocation targets and expected results. It also lays out a plan for how the investor will monitor his or her portfolio. Large pension funds create IPSs for their members. Financial Planners craft them for their clients. You too, can and should create your own IPS because this will force you to put your investment strategy in writing and commit yourself to a disciplined investment plan.
