Association of Investment Management Companies

The Association of Investment Management Companies (AIMC) held an annual academic seminar for 2008 on the topic “Lessons Learned from Navigating the Crises in the USA, Thailand and other countries, Impacts on Capitalism and Thai Economy, and Preventive Guidelines,” at InterContinental Hotel, Bangkok, on November 24, 2008 (today).   Academic benefits were to be generated from the lessons learned from the recent crisis and the crisis erupting in Thailand in 1997 and from the assessment of the rescue measures taken in Thailand, the USA and other nations, so that preparatory and preventive guidelines can be worked out.  The seminar has been viewed as a channel to brainstorm ideas and jointly analyze the incidents from the past to present in a broad range among institutional investors, the public sector and academics. 


The seminar was honored by speakers with competence and experience from diversified fields, namely Mr. Vichate Tantiwanich, Chief Marketing Officer, Issuer & Listing, the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET); Mrs. Suchada Kirakul, Assistant Governor, the Bank of Thailand; Mr. Sombat Narawutthichai, Secretary-General, Securities Analysts Association; Dr. Santi Kiranan, Chief Executive Officer, the SET’s Bond Electronic Exchange; Associate Professor Dr. Sompop Manarungsan, Professor of Faculty of Economics, Chulalongkorn University; Mr. Maris Tarab, Managing Director, ING Funds (Thailand) Co., Ltd.; and Mrs. Voravan Tarapoom, AIMC Chairperson, who shared their knowledge, experience and viewpoints with the attendees.


This seminar was held by AIMC for the first time.  AIMC has planned to hold the seminar annually with an objective to promote and disseminate technical knowledge that will benefit fund management industry, money market, capital market and the general public.
