Association of Investment Management Companies (AIMC) attended
AIMC attended the 14th Asia Oceania Regional Meeting at Taipei, Taiwan during April 13 – 17, 2009.
Miss Duangkamon Phisarn, President, acting as the representative of Thailand’s AIMC, attended the 14th Asia Oceania Regional Meeting at Taipei, Taiwan during April 13 – 17, 2009. The attendees totaled 30, including the presidents, directors, executive directors from 11 countries in Asia/Oceania region. Those were Australia, Japan, Taiwan, Korea, Hongkong, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, India, Bangladesh and Thailand. Each member assigned around 2 -3 representatives to attend the meeting.
At the meeting, the presentation and discussion were divided into 2 parts including 1) The presentation of overall investment management industry in each country, covering its growth, progress, and change of rule, regulation, and relating taxes, in both mutual fund and provident fund. And 2) The presentation of agenda which was of importance and of general interest in the national/regional investment management industry, such as An introduction of Korea’s Financial Investment Services and Capital Market Act, An introduction of Malaysia’s Capital Markets at Services 2007, The fund’s opportunities and challenges in market turmoil, Product innovation and risk management, Strategies for exporting funds management services, and The growth of ETF markets. The meeting also had a discussion of a regional association establishment, as the European countries did. Such association contributed to the strength of regional industry and increased the negotiation power with European countries and America. Furthermore, the meeting discussed on the nomination of Asia/Oceania representatives to be directors of International Investment Fund Association—IIFA. Its headquarter is based in Canada and the annual meeting is organized to allow its members to discuss on the matters which are significant for the regional and global investment management such as the problems of accounting standard relating the investment management industry.
During the 14th Asia Oceania Regional Meeting, Miss Duangkamon Phisarn gave a presentation on the overall industry including the improvement, growth and trend of Thailand’s investment management industry.
Attending this regional meeting is an opportunity to learn and exchange information relating to the investment management industry, such as the industry data, progress and change of rule, regulation and tax etc. Furthermore, it allows making acquaintance and building good relationship with other associations in the region, enabling AIMC to have an opportunity to further consult, discuss and exchange information with them, especially the consultation regarding the improvement, rules and regulations which tend to be the core concept of local investment management development in the future.
